About Emergency Responders Health Center

Emergency responders face extreme conditions; their healthcare should go above and beyond, as well.

Emergency Responders Health Center (ERHC) was founded by an emergency room physician to address the elevated health risks faced by firefighters, police officers, EMS/EMT, and other emergency response professionals. Based in Boise, Idaho, ERHC’s pioneering medical clinic offers highly specialized primary care, occupational medicine, mental health outreach, and other wellness services. With a mission to promote optimal well-being among the emergency personnel we all rely on, ERHC emphasizes preventative care, proactive health maintenance, and emotional wellness.

ERHC 360 Mental Health Directory

It comes with the territory.

First responders face chronic stress, extreme conditions, and life-threatening situations, as a routine. As a result, they are at higher risk than others to experience chronic depression, heightened anxiety, and trauma-related mental health conditions.

Emergency Responders Health Center works to connect emergency response personnel with qualified mental health services, before the burdens of daily trauma become a weight too great to carry. With support from the Pacific Source Foundation, ERHC has developed a Mental Health Directory featuring trusted counselors, therapists, psychiatrists, and other local resources to promote emotional wellness. Directory members demonstrate the clinical experience to address responders’ unique personal and job-related concerns, and the dedication to provide exceptional care to those who serve and protect our communities.

Mental Health Outreach Events

Mental health is as essential as physical health for top performance in the line of duty. Emergency Responders Health Center (ERHC) is committed to decreasing the cultural stigma surrounding mental and behavioral health among first responders, and promoting timely access to trusted, effective, and occupationally-relevant care.

Our Mental Health Outreach presentation series is designed to increase awareness of mental health risks inherent in emergency response professions; mental health “first aid” (self-care and day-to-day coping strategies); and resources available for effective mental health support and treatment. This series is designed and delivered by licensed mental health therapists and medical professionals, based on up-to-date research and data.

Mindfulness Practice for Emergency Responders

March 5 – April 9, 2024 | Tuesdays, 3 – 4:30 p.m.

First Responders are at higher risk for anxiety, depression, PTSD, alcohol abuse, and burnout than the general population. This can lead to lower quality of life, career-limiting or ending mental health conditions, strained relationships, and other concerns. Research shows that responders who engage in Mindfulness Practices on a regular basis have greater resilience against the effects of stress and trauma. This series will educate and guide responders on how to use practical mindfulness strategies and techniques in their everyday lives.
